What is Agile for Patriots (AFP)?
Agile for Patriots provides military veterans and their spouses with focused Agile training, practical experience, Professional Scrum Master certification, coaching, and resources for finding employment in Agile software development at no cost.
What are the dates of the next program?
Registration for our 2025 cohort will open on Monday, January 13th. Key program dates are listed below and announcements will be sent out on our LinkedIn page and and to subscribers of our mailing list.
Jan 10: Live Q&A session
Jan 13-24: Applications accepted
Feb 3: Applicants selected for interviews are notified
Feb 3-5: Selected applicants schedule Interviews
Feb 5-19: Applicants participate in interviews
March 11-13: Training – Intro to Agile (10 AM – 3 PM US Central Time)
April 1-3: Training – Scrum.org Applying Professional Scrum (10 AM – 3 PM US Central Time)
May 1-16: Practicum (9:00 AM to 5:00 PM US Central Time)
May 5: Training – Scrum.org Professional Scrum Product Backlog Management Skills (9:00 AM to 5:00 PM US Central Time)
May 16: Graduation!
Who is eligible to participate?
You must meet ONE of the following qualifications:
- Honorably discharged Veteran (active duty, Reserve or National Guard) OR
- Active Duty U.S. Military service member with a separation or retirement that is within 1 year of this application (branch approved retirement/separation orders are required) OR
- National Guard or Reservist in the U.S. military (separation/retirement date is not a factor) OR
- The spouse of any of the above (separation/retirement date of service member is not a factor)
What are the requirements to participate?
- You must meet one of the eligibility qualifications listed above
- You must be willing to agree to the AFP Creed and sign the Participation Commitment defined in the application form
- You must be interested in pursuing a career in Agile Value Delivery
- You must be able to learn how to use technology products such as Mural, Jira, etc. through self-study and with minimal help
- You must have computer with a working camera, microphone and speakers and a reliable high-speed internet connection
- We recommend that you use a headset with a microphone and have two monitors

- Please read the eligibility and requirements above carefully to ensure you are eligible to participate
- Check your schedule and other commitments to confirm you can fully commit to all of the dates of the program
- Collect all the documents you will need to submit during the application process to prove you are eligible
- Come back to this page on Jan 13th. You will be able to click the Apply button (it will not be visible before January 13th) to start your application
What will happen after I apply?
If we feel that this program is a good fit for you, we will send you a message with instructions on using a calendly link to schedule a brief Zoom interview. You must monitor your e-mail and complete scheduling your interview within 24 hours of receiving the message.

Program Overview
Attend Introduction to Agile session
- Get acquainted with the mindset, values, principles and practices of team-based solution development
Prepare for the Applying Professional Scrum™ (APS) course
- If you wish to continue with the program, self-study and take the Scrum Open assessment. A score of 85% or above is required to proceed
Attend Applying Professional Scrum™ (APS) course
- Complete the pre-training survey/homework
- Attend the virtual course
Take the Professional Scrum Master I certification exam

Within 14 days of completion of the APS course, you must take your first attempt at the Professional Scrum Master certification. You will receive two free attempts at the exam. You will have until 5:00PM Central time on the 8th day of the practicum to pass the PSM-I in order to graduate from the program. Participants may elect to purchase an additional exam if they do not pass the first two attempts.
- If you pass the PSM I on your first attempt, you may apply for the Scrum Master or Product Owner role of the practicum
Attend the 12 days Practicum (Weekdays only)
- You will form a Scrum team that will be tasked with a small project to be completed within 12 days
- You will utilize tools such as WordPress, Divi Builder, JIRA software
- Hear from professional Agile speakers and employers
- Experience Sprints from the Agile Delivery Playbook, including Sprint Review and peer reviews
- The practicum concludes with a graduation ceremony
Ongoing Support
- Alumni support with Meetups in the DFW area
- Potential Apprenticeship opportunities when available
- All graduates in good standing are eligible to participate in select future Scrum.org and Agile for Patriots training, workshops, and ongoing coaching if they have met the guidelines set by the program.
